Spy and Spirit #4 - Unconditional Support

I have to believe that the Palestinian people would have had their own state by now if they had chosen peaceful resistance after the Nakba. How could the US support Israel if Palestinians rejected interference from their Arab neighbors and stood peacefully between their homes and soldiers or settlers who sought to destroy them? It would be an unjustifiable stain on our democracy, let alone negate Israel's need for a Qualitative Military Edge (QME).

What is life like on that timeline now? It's ironic that Mahatma Gandhi's peaceful casting off of the British empire from Hindustan happened almost the same time the First Arab-Israeli War started a sixty-five-year cycle of violence.

However, on our timeline, the cycle of violence fits into the Likud's strategy and narrative - the Palestinians fight back now and then when their land is seized by settlers, which justifies further encroachment by the IDF. The cage gets tighter. Occupying forces are everywhere. And the frontline is indistinguishable because it's all around, zigzagging the West Bank. Step across, and you're cut down.

The savagery visited upon Israeli civilians ten days ago, too, works well for Bibi Netanyahu. It will not be met with compassionate recalculation. It will be met with chauvinism and more extraordinary brutality. Our lives have value. Yours don't. Back into the desert with you. Help is NOT coming.

Biden shouldn't have said US support for Israel is unconditional…

This is spy - the obligation of great powers to help their small allies kill their neighbors. And this is spirit - the knowledge that we, as nations, civilizations, and individuals, spurn our higher wisdom every day to entertain our delusions of superiority.
